Don't Wait to Light Your Special Occasion Candles - Today is Special

I believe that we all have something or things that are saved for a special occasion. That great bottle of wine you bought on vacation that remains to be uncorked, that beautiful china that sits in the cabinet just waiting to be eaten off of, that one-of-a kind Parisian perfume that sits on the vanity half empty and untouched because it's too precious to use, that to-die-for hand bag that stays forever stuffed with tissue guarded in its cotton protector, and yes ~ that amazing candle that triggers all the right pleasantries one could desire yet sits like a precious figurine ~ look but, don't touch.

I have saved all of these things for a special occasion. But most of all, candles. I adore candles, this is why I love making them. I was and still am a candle collector.

I used to have a special candle collection that would just sit, unlit, to be admired, occasionally sniffed, dreamt about, and dusted. Saved for special occasions that would never actually come - because what occasion could possibly be special enough for that special scent?

These special candles were always ones that I was so drawn to and cherished that I just had to have, no matter the price. They would sit as if they were forbidden fruit collecting dust and I couldn't bring myself to light them.

After dusting my special candles for the millionth time I thought to myself ~ why am I not lighting them? I bought these candles because the scent... means something to me. The smell takes me to a happy place and... I want to enjoy them, not just look at them.

I finally recognized that my special candles are meant to be enjoyed―what's the point if you don't use them, right?

So drink that wine before it spoils, use that china at breakfast, wear that perfume to bed, break out that hand bag and just go to the store, and...YES ~ light your special candles. Be transported to the memory of that aroma you admired and adored for so long.

Now is your time to feel special.
