What are hydrosols?
Hydrosols, also known as "flower waters," are the aromatic waters that condense in the collecting vessel during steam distillation of essential oils. Hydrosols are among the gentlest and safest aromatics for use in caring for your skin.
With similar therapeutic properties to essential oils, these aromatic waters are much less concentrated. Hydrosols are much gentler than their essential oil counterparts and can generally be used directly on the skin without further dilution. Many hydrosols can be sprayed near the eyes, taken as drinks, sprayed on the skin, amongst other uses.
What do hydrosols smell like?
Their aromas are often subtle when compared to their essential oil counterpart. These aromatic products usually have a greener woody note. This comes from the water soluble constituents in the plant material such as stems and branches that are not present in the essential oil. Let's just say, some hydrosols do not smell as pleasant as the essential oil and are often used primarily for their therapeutic, not aromatic, properties.
